The Brief: One of our most exciting projects we undertook last year was the groundworks for the new Shielfield Park Races Point-to-Point venue near Alcester, Warwickshire. The landowner’s vision was to provide a legacy and establish a new venue for local amateur horse racing following the closure of the Upton-on-Seven course. She chose to restore the exciting event on her own land, providing an inspiring and rewarding new venue for the community. As the local groundworks contractors, we were approached to be part of the construction for the exciting new course and even more grateful for being chosen as the races main sponsor following the successful completion of works.
The Works:
- We were tasked to install new roadways to allow the public and emergency vehicles access to the site as well as a lorry park for competitors and exhibitors vehicles. Along with this we also installed associated course drainage. We installed over a 1000LM of roadways and a tarmac bow mouth entrance and over 1000LM of land drainage using our 14-ton and 6-ton excavators and 25-ton and 9-ton dumper trucks.
- We were then tasked to install a specialist crossing over the racecourse which allowed both vehicles during the winter months and horses to cross safely and access the course.
